Step 2: Enter Alert Thresholds

Follow the steps below to enter alert threshold values for event indicators so that PULSE will send notifications to your dairy team.

PULSE does not currently support alerts and notifications for all available indicator types. Use the following instructions to set up Health Indicators, but note that the steps may differ for other indicator types.

These instructions assume that you completed Step 1: Enable & Set Up Health Indicators and already enabled alerts and indicators in PULSE:

  1. Begin by making sure the Indicators tab and the Health Indicators option are selected on the Performance Indicators page (see example below).

In this example, PULSE analyzed the herd and updated the Count of Occurrence fields on the Indicators page for each event found across the herd.

You can track any of these events by setting an alert threshold value.

  2. Enter alert threshold values for each event that you want to track in the Alert Threshold fields. Alert Threshold fields allow whole numbers or decimal places. 0.1% is the smallest value that can be entered, and 100% is the max.
NOTE: Changes made in a field on this page are automatically saved when clicking or tabbing into another field or navigating to a different page.

The first time you enter a value in an Alert Threshold field, PULSE displays an icon indicating that the event is not currently being tracked by an alert group.

For example, if you enter "0.1" in the Alert Threshold field for the Overall MastitisClosed Mastitis is the persistent, inflammatory reaction of the udder tissue due to physical trauma or infection. Symptoms of mastitis include udder swelling, heat, hardness, redness, or pain. The milk may have a watery appearance, flakes, clots, or pus. and Cow Mastitis events, this tells PULSE to notify your team when there's a 0.1% change in Overall Mastitis events or when specific Cow Mastitis events occur in your herd. As shown above, PULSE displays an icon to let you know that the overall mastitisClosed Mastitis is the persistent, inflammatory reaction of the udder tissue due to physical trauma or infection. Symptoms of mastitis include udder swelling, heat, hardness, redness, or pain. The milk may have a watery appearance, flakes, clots, or pus. event indicator is not included in any alert groups.

Depending on the size of your herd, a value of 0.1% may be insignificant to your dairy operations. For example, you may want members of your dairy team to be alerted when 10% or 20% of the animals in your herd experience a change in Overall Mastitis events. But, don't worry! You can update the alert threshold value to a percentage that meets your dairy's needs at any time.

NOTE: The alert threshold values entered on the Indicators page in Dairy Settings are different from the Threshold (%) values entered when configuring events. See Edit Event Definitions for more information.

Once the indicators are included in at least alert group on the Alert Groups page, the icons in the example above are no longer displayed.

  3. Before PULSE will send notifications to your dairy team, you need to add an alert group. Proceed to Step 3: Add Alert Groups to continue.
