Genetic Planning Overview

To access and use Alta BLUE LINK, you must first be added by your administrator or manager and assigned to specific dairies. See Alta BLUE LINK User Management to learn more about user access.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT use the Request Access button on the dairy's profile page to request access to the genetic planning tool. That option sends a message to the dairy's owner and may cause confusion.

Alta's BLUE LINK is a genetic planning tool that allows you to improve and adjust specific traits in a dairy's herd. By creating a customized genetic plan, you can select ideal sires and mating partners to refine the herd (or a segment of the herd) in many different ways.

Maybe the dairy wants to focus on increasing production and decreasing the risk of mastitisClosed Mastitis is the persistent, inflammatory reaction of the udder tissue due to physical trauma or infection. Symptoms of mastitis include udder swelling, heat, hardness, redness, or pain. The milk may have a watery appearance, flakes, clots, or pus. in first-lactation cows. Or perhaps the dairy's goal is to improve conception rates. Maybe they're aiming to increase the fat content of their milk.
