COLOSTRUM Event (MyDC only)
The COLOSTRUM event is a MyDC-only event that captures when newborn calves receive colostrum or replacer. Colostrum, the first milk produced by a cow after birth, is high in nutrients and antibodies that provide calves initial protection against disease. Calves need about 2 quarts (2 liters) of colostrum within 4 hours of birth and 1 gallon (4 liters) within 12 hours.
Use the mobile app or the web version of PULSE to enter events! Tap Events in the mobile app to get started, or see Add Events to learn more about adding events from web. PULSE supports adding events that have occurred within the last year.

Brix value is based on a system that uses a refractometer to measure colostral antibodies. PULSE accepts values between 14 and 40. Colostrum with a Brix value above 22 is considered optimal. When the Brix value is below 22, dairies may choose to supplement with colostrum replacer.
